When did the Travel Channel become the Food Porn Channel? Seriously. I turn on the TV and it’s either Man v. Food or Bizarre Foods or No Reservations… and then there’s that series, Tastiest Places to Chow Down, which counts down, like, 500 of the best places across the country to get a 10-serving masterpiece of, I don’t know, deep-fried, cheese-coated lard, topped with five gallons of sour cream. And of course it all looks delicious.
I don’t know whether it’s just a coincidence, but I’ve been craving cheese all week. Cheese! I love cheese. Everything on Man v. Food seems to be either stuffed with or buried in cheese (or both). The quesadillas, the pizza, the tortilla pizza… Tonight I had stuffed flounder (stuffed with cheese, of course) and a spinach/sun-dried tomato/caper/pesto/goat cheese/parmesan pasta-ish concoction. Except it wasn’t pasta. I used those shirataki noodles.
I mean, they’re kind of like spaghetti… kind of. I think this would’ve been even better with spaghetti squash, but it’s not like I just keep that in the refrigerator at all times, and it was a what-can-I-make-with-what-I-have kind of night. I would post the recipe, except I just kind of threw things in a frying pan and hoped for the best, so I don’t really remember how it all came together. It was loosely based on this recipe.
One thing I do know? It could’ve used more cheese.
In other news, I leave for Argentina in three days. Argentina – land of grass-fed beef, empanadas, and fun Spanish/Italian dishes that involve wheat and cheese and all kinds of things I shouldn’t be eating on a regular basis. I’m going to have to go on another strict Perricone cleanse when I get back, I know it already. But I will try to be good. And I will take pictures of my food and blog about it later, because that is just what I do.
